Why would you do that? Your rands are purer then sovs I do believe. Why not just collecting sovs. That will give you diversified gold holdings.

Both sovs and rands are 22K gold or 91.67%

but...

how can you start a thread about a new sov without posting a pic???

Gosh I thought you would never ask!:haha:

Sorry.

Here is the pic the dealer sent. It is not great. I will try taking a digital pic myself tomorrow ... (though compared to Tom D's stuff who dares!)

I don't know, it just seems to me that as the price of gold rises, the smaller coins are going to be easier to sell if needed ... and sovereigns dont have much more of a premium compared to anything, in the UK at least ....

I have a decent amount of old sovereigns. Some say they would be classified as rare coins and not subject to confiscation. I took that into consideration when I bought them but I'm not worried about that anymore. They go for a little over bullion. Just thought I'd chime in. :albertein

why don't you buy the old sovereigns they may increase in value because of the rarity aswell.

here in Australia there is 10%GST on all coins that are not 100% pure gold. :(

In Canada it's 7-15% depending on the province and the coin in question. I would love to get some krugerrands, sovereigns and other coins, but I have to wait until my next trip to the US to get those without tax. Some provinces in Canada even have 7% on pure .9999 Maple Leafs.

I have both one is 1966, one 1907, one 1910. Some are half sovs. Would like more of the older ones ... working on it ...

Why don't you get them sent from UK? How much to you pay for them there?

Some nice coins on display here so I thought I'd share my newest buy with you guys. A 1909 20 french franc which arrived this morning. First task was to cut then file the mounting hoop someone had soldered on

0.1867oz gold, which cost me 46, so 246/oz against spot of 328 :ARMS1:

I tend to buy most of my coins on ebay.co.uk. Occasionally you see a buy-it-now well below spot, or an auction with very little interest such as with the 20 franc coin.

where in australia are you decebel? whilst it is true that 10% tax is applied on 22ct krands and eagles, there are a few places in sydney that seem to price their sovereigns at (.2354 x spot) + a nominal fee less than 10%.
eg where most dealers charge $214. others seem to sell for $201.
